Loudoun Forward publishes local business news, economic intelligence, interviews, reports, newsletters, directory content, and community business information.
To support this work, we may accept advertising, sponsorships, underwriting, paid placements, directory fees, affiliate relationships, event partnerships, and other commercial support.
This Sponsorship Disclosure explains how we identify commercial relationships and how we protect editorial independence.
1. Types of Commercial Support We May Accept
Loudoun Forward may receive compensation or other value from:
- Display advertising
- Newsletter sponsorships
- Podcast sponsorships
- Sponsored articles
- Sponsored interviews
- Sponsored reports
- Event sponsorships
- Business-directory listings or upgrades
- Affiliate links
- Referral arrangements
- Branded content
- Underwriting acknowledgments
- Research or report sponsorships
- Partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, agencies, or community organizations
Compensation may include money, free or discounted services, event access, travel support, products, data access, software access, or other consideration.
2. How Sponsored Content Is Labeled
When content is paid for, sponsored, underwritten, or materially influenced by a commercial relationship, we will aim to label it clearly.
Labels may include:
- Sponsored
- Sponsored Content
- Paid Partnership
- Advertisement
- Partner Message
- Presented By
- Underwritten By
- Sponsored Report
- Affiliate Link
- Directory Partner
- Event Partner
The exact label may vary depending on the format, but the purpose is the same: readers should be able to tell when a commercial relationship exists.
3. Editorial Independence
Sponsorship does not guarantee favorable coverage.
Advertisers, sponsors, partners, and directory participants do not control our independent editorial judgment unless the content is clearly labeled as sponsored, paid, partner, or advertiser-provided content.
We may accept sponsorship for a section, report, event, newsletter, or podcast without giving the sponsor control over unrelated editorial decisions.
We reserve the right to decline, edit, label, reject, or remove sponsored material that does not meet our standards.
4. Sponsored Articles and Branded Content
Sponsored articles or branded content may be created by:
- Loudoun Forward
- A sponsor
- A sponsor’s agency or representative
- A contributor working with or for a sponsor
Sponsored articles may discuss a sponsor’s work, services, perspective, event, research, or issue area.
When a sponsor has paid for or influenced the content, the page should include a sponsorship label.
5. Sponsored Interviews and Podcast Episodes
A podcast episode, video interview, or written interview may be sponsored by a company or organization.
A sponsor may support the production or distribution of an episode. Sponsorship does not automatically mean the guest paid to appear, unless the episode or placement is specifically sold as a paid appearance.
When an interview or episode is sponsored, we will aim to disclose that relationship in the episode page, show notes, audio, video, or surrounding promotional material.
6. Business Directory and Paid Listings
Loudoun Forward may operate a business directory.
Some directory listings may be free. Others may be paid, upgraded, sponsored, featured, promoted, or enhanced.
A paid or featured directory placement does not represent an endorsement of the business. Directory users should conduct their own evaluation before hiring, buying from, partnering with, or relying on a listed business.
7. Affiliate Links and Referral Relationships
Some links may be affiliate or referral links. If you click those links or purchase through them, Loudoun Forward may receive compensation.
Affiliate compensation does not increase the price to you unless clearly stated by the third-party provider.
We aim to disclose affiliate relationships near the relevant link, page, article, or buying recommendation.
8. Sponsored Reports and Research
Loudoun Forward may publish reports, guides, business briefs, market summaries, or issue-specific research supported by sponsors.
A sponsor may support the cost of producing or distributing a report. Sponsor support does not necessarily mean the sponsor controls the findings, framing, or conclusions.
If a sponsor has editorial input, approval rights, access to drafts, or control over the content, we will aim to disclose that relationship.
9. Events and Partnerships
Loudoun Forward may produce, co-host, promote, or cover events with sponsors or partners.
Event sponsors may receive recognition, logos, speaking opportunities, booth space, attendee engagement opportunities, or other benefits.
Coverage of an event may be editorial, sponsored, or both. We will aim to distinguish between independent coverage and sponsor-supported promotion.
10. Gifts, Access, and Review Materials
We may receive event access, review access, press materials, software trials, reports, data, meals, travel support, or other items in connection with our work.
Acceptance of access or materials does not guarantee coverage.
If a gift, access arrangement, or other benefit is material to a story, review, or recommendation, we will aim to disclose it.
11. No Pay-for-Praise Policy
Payment may buy advertising space, sponsorship recognition, directory placement, or clearly labeled sponsored content.
Payment does not buy guaranteed praise in independent editorial coverage.
We may publish critical, neutral, or favorable coverage of organizations that advertise with us, sponsor us, appear in our directory, or partner with us.
12. Reader Questions About Sponsorship
If you believe a piece of content should have clearer sponsorship labeling, contact us.
